Japan Is Expanding The Number Of Foreign Drivers For Taxis and Considering Including Them In The "Specific Skills" Category
The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport, and Tourism in Japan has begun considering the use of foreign individuals to drive trucks, buses, and taxis due to severe labor shortages in these fields. Currently, the ministry is collaborating with the Immigration Bureau to add "automobile transportation" to the "Specific Skills" residence status, allowing the reception of foreign workers prepared for employment in industries facing labor shortages. Given Japan's domestic labor shortage due to a declining population, policies aimed at employing foreign human resources may accelerate.
