One of the most popular transportation options for sightseeing in Beppu, the Beppu Ropeway, will continue its nighttime operations in 2025. Nighttime operations are mainly scheduled during holidays such as Golden Week, summer vacation, and consecutive holidays. The Beppu Ropeway is the largest cable car in Kyushu, connecting Beppu Highland Station to Tsurumi Yamaue Station, with a journey of approximately 10 minutes. Located within the Aso-Kuju National Park, Tsurumi-dake stands at an elevation of 1,375 meters, offering panoramic views of Beppu city, Yufu-dake, Kuju mountain range, and even the Shikoku and Chugoku regions on clear days.
A walking path connects Tsurumi Yamaue Station to the mountain summit, where visitors can pay respects at the Seven Lucky Gods and sacred sites along the way. In spring, around 5,000 Miyama Kirishima azaleas bloom vibrantly, while autumn offers beautiful red foliage. Additionally, the temperature at the summit is about 10°C cooler than at ground level, making nighttime operations in summer ideal for a refreshing stroll while enjoying the night views.
