Reputation of Hokusho University①: Poor Reputation of Faculty and Staff
There are numerous critical comments regarding the faculty and staff at Hokusho University.
Specifically, the criticisms include the following points:
- Arrogant attitude
- Informal interactions with students
- Slow response times
Such issues are unfortunately common in universities.

If you consider the perspective from the track and field in the top right corner, it becomes easier to grasp the size of the campus, which is quite large.
Reputation of Hokusho University③: Inconvenient Transportation
The nearest station to Hokusho University is Ouma Station.
It takes 12 minutes to reach Ouma Station from Sapporo Station by rapid train, and 15 minutes by regular train.
Furthermore, it is a 15-minute walk from Ouma Station to Hokusho University.
While the transportation is decent, it could certainly be more convenient.
Evaluation of Hokusho University①: Female Student / Faculty of Education and Culture / 2024 Enrollee
Overall Evaluation
My teachers and friends are all wonderful people, and I am very satisfied. Personally, I find it more enjoyable than middle and high school.
I feel closely connected to my future.
Lectures/Courses
I believe the courses are generally aimed at future benefits.
However, while some mandatory courses are valuable, it is questionable whether all of them truly are.
Employment/Advancement
Among private universities in Hokkaido, the employment rate is relatively high.
They provide opportunities to gain experience outside of class, such as through volunteering.
Transportation/Location
The university is close to a bus station.
For those taking the JR train, it might be a bit farther.
There are three convenience stores nearby, which is very convenient and spacious.
However, there are very few classrooms with air conditioning, so summers can be quite uncomfortable.
Friends and Relationships
You will never feel lonely because you will become very friendly with the people in your team. However, interaction outside of the group is rare, and unless you make an effort to engage with others, it can be hard to make friends.
Student Life
I want to exercise but not overexert myself! Personally, I think this is great because some clubs allow even those who aren't passionate about them to join.
Evaluation of Hokusho University②: Female Student / Faculty of Education and Culture / 2023 Enrollee
Overall Evaluation
If you want to become a teacher, this is a great choice. While there are many strict professors, they are all kind-hearted and caring.
Lectures/Courses
You can learn a great deal about education.
I think they especially emphasize special education, which is wonderful.
Labs/Seminars
This depends entirely on the seminar's professor. Naturally, there are both successes and failures.
Employment/Advancement
It also depends on the seminar advisor. If you find a good professor, you will receive a lot of support. It seems your second-year grades are important, so it's a good idea to keep your GPA high until then.
Transportation/Location
The nearest station is Ouma Station, which is about a 15-20 minute walk, so transportation is not particularly convenient. The nearest bus stop is located in front of Hokusho University Sapporo College, and it takes about 10 minutes to reach the campus from there.
There are many different departments and various facilities. I don't have any particular complaints.
Friends/Relationships
I think you can make friends in every course. Even within the same department, what you do will vary greatly depending on the course, so there's not much interaction with other courses or departments. However, if you join a club or extracurricular activity, you'll be able to make a wide variety of friends.
Student Life
There are many different types of circles. These clubs are clearly strong, so once you join, you'll feel compelled to perform excellently.
Evaluation of Hokusho University③: Female Student / Faculty of Education and Culture, Psychology and Counseling Major / 2023 Enrollee
Overall Evaluation
I think this is a great university for students who want to gain qualifications. I hear real stories from various coaches, and I feel it's the perfect environment to shape my future.
Lectures/Courses
There are various courses to choose from, taught by different instructors. We also have many external lecturers who share their experiences in the field, which is very enjoyable.
Labs/Seminars
During the seminars, we conduct multiple investigations. The juniors and other students actively participate in research, making the seminar activities go smoothly.
Employment/Advancement
Most students apply their knowledge by continuing to graduate school or by engaging in practical training. What impressed me most was how comprehensive the school’s career support is.
Transportation/Location
There are only convenience stores and drugstores nearby, and it takes about 10 minutes to walk to the station, so the location is somewhat inconvenient. It’s difficult in winter.
However, there are convenience stores and restaurants nearby, which is very convenient. Nonetheless, sometimes I feel that the classrooms are a bit too small for the number of students.
Friends/Relationships
Joining a club or extracurricular activity allows you to make friends with upperclassmen and juniors and get along well. However, when you're in different departments, you don’t meet often, so you tend to make more friends within the same department or faculty.
Student Life
The scale of the campus festivals is smaller than I expected. However, there are many small events, so I recommend participating in some.
