Reputation and Evaluation of Nagano University

Reputation of Nagano University①: Became a Public University in 2017

Nagano University became a public university in April 2017.

In terms of public universities, there are significant differences in tuition and admission fees.

Reputation of Nagano University②: The Campus is Old and Full of Charm

The campus has a cool atmosphere. You can feel the grandeur of the old-style school buildings.

Since it is a university with a long history, the school buildings might be quite old.

The interiors may feel slightly outdated and basic, but from the outside, the campus looks impressive.

Reputation of Nagano University③: Has a Lounge

Nagano University has a lounge where you can enjoy snacks and relax.

This is a space created by the university for students to hang out.

Evaluation of Nagano University①: Female Student / Faculty of Social Welfare, Department of Social Welfare / Enrolled in 2023

Overall Evaluation
I often feel that I do not receive sufficient support. However, there are many teachers who teach interesting classes, so it’s enjoyable.

Lectures/Classes
While there are some good subjects, there are also disappointing aspects, such as teachers talking only about themselves or leaving the entire class to the students from start to finish.

Laboratory/Seminars
Many students taking clinical psychology courses go on to graduate school. However, since qualifications require continuing to graduate school, there is no graduate school specifically for clinical psychology courses here.

Employment/Advancement
I wonder what it’s like to have a graduate school that only offers social welfare courses. The Student Support Department suits many people. While there are some decent staff members, I’m not satisfied with their support.

Transportation/Location
The nearest station is Daigakumae Station on the Bessho Line. It’s about a 10-minute walk and is widely used. There is also a convenience store nearby. Without a bicycle or car, grocery shopping can be a bit inconvenient, but overall, I’m relatively satisfied.

Facilities/Equipment
There’s a Librohole, which has experienced power outages that haven’t been repaired, and the frequency of outages is increasing. The latter part of the campus is on a slope, so there are many stairs.

Friendships/Romance
After joining a club, I interacted more with classmates and seniors, forming relationships where I could have frequent conversations with some seniors.

Student Life
There are many clubs, some of which are new. I think starting your own club could also be a great idea.

Evaluation of Nagano University②: Female Student / Faculty of Social Welfare, Department of Social Welfare / Enrolled in 2022

Overall Evaluation
Highly recommended for those aiming to qualify as social workers or mental health professionals. Since there are many subjects required for qualification, it might not suit those who want complete freedom in attending classes.

Lectures/Classes
Many of our teachers have experience in the field and will provide detailed information about the welfare sector and practical training.

Employment/Advancement
The national exam pass rates for social workers and mental health workers are very high. The university actively helps with preparation for national exams.

Transportation/Location
It’s about a 15-minute walk from the station. The surrounding area is rural, with many fields and rice paddies, but it’s quiet and conducive to concentration. The downside is that the Bessho Line can be a bit expensive.

Facilities/Equipment
There are air conditioners, and most toilets are Western-style. However, the facilities appear old-fashioned at first glance. It seems the facilities will be improved as new departments are established in the future.

Friendships/Romance
Freshman seminars and practical courses are conducted in groups for a year, so I think it’s easy to make friends.

Student Life
Since the pandemic, there have been many school festivals and other events, which I find fulfilling.

Evaluation of Nagano University③: Female Student / Faculty of Social Welfare, Department of Social Welfare / Enrolled in 2022

Overall Evaluation
I think it’s highly rewarding for those interested in welfare and aiming to work in the field. On the other hand, it might be tough for those lacking passion or feeling discouraged by lectures and practical training.

Lectures/Classes
There are many teachers knowledgeable about welfare.
From the first semester, you can engage with areas related to national exams.

Employment/Advancement
There seems to be sufficient support for those aiming to work in the welfare field, but there’s almost no support for others seeking jobs (which might be understandable since the faculty specializes in welfare).

Transportation/Location
The nearest station is "Daigakumae Station," about a 10-15 minute walk away.
Train fares are expensive and often crowded as many commute by car.

Facilities/Equipment
As of October 2023, the WiFi environment has been redeveloped, and mobile reception has improved.

Friendships/Romance
While studying welfare, it’s easy to spend time with people considerate of others' feelings. Some enjoy hanging out with friends, while others prefer being alone. The lectures involve a lot of group work, which makes it easy to connect with others. Although I’m not very good at group activities, everyone was kind, so I managed to get through.

Student Life
There are many volunteer groups. You can also participate in welfare activities in your personal life. Other clubs are similar to what you’d typically expect. Exciting new projects are also being added.
