Reviews of Yokohama Sōei University
Review ①: Female / Faculty of Child Education, Early Childhood Education Department / Current Student / Enrolled in 2022
Overall Rating
I believe this university is very fulfilling for students who aspire to become kindergarten or nursery teachers. However, it may not be suitable for those who lack a clear goal.
Lectures/Classes
The teachers are very kind and attentive. Even if you are a beginner in piano, you can improve your skills with one-on-one instruction.
Employment/Advancement
Many students use what they learn here to become kindergarten or nursery teachers.
Transportation/Location
There are no convenience stores or food shops nearby, and the bus stop is a bit far, which makes summer quite challenging.
Facilities/Equipment
The facilities are new, but the computers are old and slow to start up.
Friends/Romance
Since many students are on a similar path, our personalities tend to match well. As for romance, many students meet partners within the school.
Student Life
There are a few clubs, but it seems many students are busy with part-time jobs.
Review ②: Female / Faculty of Nursing, Nursing Department / Current Student / Enrolled in 2022
Overall Rating
In general, I feel that if you put in the effort, there won't be many problems, but the quality of the teachers is quite poor. Some are unreasonable, and we often don't get any exam information until right before the test. Of course, there are also some very kind teachers, but this inconsistency is common in education.
Lectures/Classes
The lectures are easier than I expected, but I worry that I might struggle with exams and the national nursing examination. What you learn depends on your teacher, but if you work hard, you shouldn't face too many difficulties.
Employment/Advancement
This is not a school for those who want to pursue higher education. It's a good place to obtain nursing qualifications and public health or school nurse certifications, but these qualifications require significant effort.
Transportation/Location
Honestly, the location is terrible. There's only a forest nearby, and no convenience stores. You need to take a bus from the station, which takes a lot of time.
Facilities/Equipment
The facilities aren't very nice. Every classroom has Wi-Fi, but the signal is weak. We recently got a new toilet, which I appreciate.
Friends/Romance
The campus is crowded, and there are frequent quarrels, but everyone gets along regardless of gender. There aren't many boys, but a surprising number of students are dating. Most people around me have boyfriends or girlfriends.
Student Life
There aren't many students in clubs because they're busy with their studies. After joining, I made friends with seniors and appreciated being able to see past exam papers. The campus festival started this year, and I made a lot of friends with upperclassmen. It's a bit disappointing that no one is forced to participate.
Review ③: Female / Faculty of Child Education, Early Childhood Education Department / Current Student / Enrolled in 2021
Overall Rating
From the first year, students get to experience a variety of things. You can learn practical skills like childcare through simulations. Additionally, in the foundational seminars, depending on the lecturer, the experiences vary greatly.
Lectures/Classes
There are many elective subjects, but I feel that there is too much variation depending on the lecturer.
Laboratory/Seminars
Seminars start in the third year, but there is a foundational seminar from the first year, where students can experience various activities.
Employment/Advancement
It’s quite easy to understand since they display various advertisements, and they also provide training programs.
Transportation/Location
It’s about a 20-minute walk, but it’s manageable because there are convenience stores and supermarkets along the way.
Facilities/Equipment
There are some nice facilities, but there’s a high school right next door. It's best not to expect too much.
Friends/Romance
It’s fun if you meet people of the same level. There are two classes in total.
Student Life
There are a lot of clubs, but I didn’t participate in any.
