Shimonoseki City University Review①: Male / Faculty of Economics, International Business Department / Enrolled in 2023
Overall Evaluation
I would describe it as average, perhaps leaning towards subpar. For those seeking a vibrant university life, it’s a great place to be. Whether or not you have a meaningful college experience depends entirely on your own efforts.
Lectures/Classes
During your first year, you'll be covering the basics, but in your second year, you can dive into subjects like marketing and more.
Laboratories/Seminars
Seminars start in the second semester of your second year. I haven't participated yet, so I can't comment, but I've heard they are quite fulfilling.
Employment/Advancement
The employment rate exceeds 90%, and companies from neighboring prefectures often hold briefings on campus.
Transportation/Location
The nearest station is Hatabu Station on the San'in and Sanyo Main Lines. The San'in Line is a local line, so if you're planning to live nearby, aim for a location along the Sanyo Main Line. The San'in Line can be unreliable and may stop running during disasters. It's recommended to live either along the JR Line or near the university, as the last trains leave early.
Facilities/Equipment
Nothing particularly problematic stands out. The Data Science Building is new.
Friends/Romantic Life
Joining a club will allow you to make plenty of friends. Until last year, it was a small college, but with the addition of Data Science and Nursing departments, the student population is growing. Therefore, I believe it's easy to make friends both within and outside your department.
Student Life
It’s quite fulfilling. Besides the school festival, there are also a couple of sports events organized annually by the sports clubs, and the cultural clubs plan activities as well.
Shimonoseki City University Review②: Male / Faculty of Economics, Economics Department / Enrolled in 2023
Overall Evaluation
Most of the subjects are similar, but there are some differences. I'm quite satisfied, as the courses are tailored to specific topics.
Lectures/Classes
Although some professors speak softly, there are many competent ones, and the classes are generally satisfactory.
Laboratories/Seminars
Despite its location, the campus is large and well-equipped. Each classroom is organized and orderly.
Employment/Advancement
The employment rate is remarkably high across the country, which is another advantage of this university. Many students also go on to become civil servants.
Transportation/Location
The location isn’t ideal, with few leisure spots nearby. Students must walk 20 to 30 minutes from the nearest station to reach the university.
Facilities/Equipment
The facilities are generally in good condition. Two new departments will be added next year, and new buildings are under construction.
Friends/Romantic Life
If you talk to others in person, it's easy to make friends. Additionally, there are no reports of bullying on campus.
Student Life
I'm not involved in any clubs, but my friends who are seem to enjoy it.
Shimonoseki City University Review③: Female / Faculty of Economics, Public Management Department / Enrolled in 2023
Overall Evaluation
Compared to other departments, you can take a wide variety of courses, which makes earning credits easier. I think it's a great department, as you can study both economics and international business.
Lectures/Classes
I appreciate that job-search-related courses, useful for the future, are available from the spring of the first year. The course content varies depending on the professor.
Employment/Advancement
There are some resources available to support job hunting. I haven't used them yet, so I'm not sure about the specifics.
Transportation/Location
The train station is far away, so buses are often used. Additionally, parking passes cannot be rented for a full year, and the parking lot is small, so many people are unable to use it, with priority given to those living far away.
Facilities/Equipment
The locations of Buildings A and B are easy to confuse. I don't have many complaints about the facilities, but there are few places where Wi-Fi is available.
Friends/Romantic Life
The co-op is a great place to start making friends. After that, people tend to stick to their own circles. Personally, I feel that the friendships I’ve made through the co-op have formed the foundation of my social life.
Student Life
The cultural clubs aren't very active. The current environment doesn't seem ideal, as some circles use club funds for personal purposes.
