Evaluation of Ishikawa Prefectural University

Evaluation ①: Female / Faculty of Bioresources and Environmental Science, Department of Production Science / Current Student / Enrolled in 2021

Overall Evaluation
The Department of Industrial Science offers a broad range of subjects, allowing students to explore their interests as they study, which I believe is beneficial for those who are still uncertain about their future career path. Additionally, I find that the atmosphere in the Department of Production Science is more relaxed compared to other departments. I am glad I enrolled in the Department of Industrial Science, as I have good friends and a peaceful university life.

Lectures/Classes
Many of the courses delve deeply into topics covered in high school biology. A friend of mine, who studied physics in high school, struggled with understanding certain aspects of physics from the first year. However, for those who studied biology in high school, the content is easier to grasp. Of course, in addition to biology, a substantial amount of chemistry is also required. While most courses focus on plants, there are professors specializing in animal studies as well, offering courses related to animals.

Laboratories/Seminars
Third-year students are assigned to laboratories, but there are also internships and "Poke" seminars available for first- and second-year students, making it easy for younger students to explore lab work. As this is a small university, one of its advantages is that students can spend more time conducting research with their professors.

Employment/Advancement
Each year, several students pass the public service exams, primarily for Ishikawa Prefecture. Recently, a course for civil service exam preparation has been conducted by instructors from other vocational schools, available at a low cost for those interested. In terms of private-sector employment, there are many opportunities with companies related to food and plants, likely due to the significant number of students from the Hokuriku region. Many students find employment within the three Hokuriku prefectures. Few students pursue graduate studies.

Transportation/Location
Many students commute by car, and there is ample parking. Other commuting methods include walking, cycling, and taking the bus. However, during the winter, when heavy snow makes commuting difficult, many students who walk or cycle switch to using the bus. That said, bus services are infrequent, so it can be inconvenient without a car. In terms of the surrounding environment, there are few trendy cafes nearby, just a few budget supermarkets and drugstores. With a car, students can visit larger stores and shopping facilities, providing some freedom.

Facilities/Equipment
While I am not particularly familiar with all the facilities, the campus seems clean, likely due to the university's relatively short history. Every student has a locker with a key, and the restrooms, cafeteria, and lecture halls are all well-maintained, thanks to the cleaning staff. My only personal complaint is that the gym is too small.

Friends/Dating
In the Department of Production Science, students come from diverse backgrounds, making it easy to find a community that suits you. However, compared to universities in urban areas, the campus feels quieter, with no signs of students causing trouble. While some may find the atmosphere too reserved, others may appreciate the seriousness of their peers. Given the small size of the university, there are few couples on campus. Many students seem to have relationships outside the university. The lack of active clubs and drinking parties may also contribute to this.

Student Life
When it comes to clubs, the level of activity varies greatly depending on the group. In some clubs, senior and junior members have strong connections, creating a sense of community and organizing university-style gatherings.

Evaluation ②: Female / Faculty of Bioresources and Environmental Science, Department of Food Science / Current Student / Enrolled in 2018

Overall Evaluation
If you're looking to gain specialized knowledge, I highly recommend this university. In addition to labs, there are plenty of farmland and outdoor facilities, and the professors are attentive.

Lectures/Classes
Given the small number of students, the facilities are satisfactory, and individual consultations are easy to arrange.

Employment/Advancement
I sought advice from the career center, which also helps with interview preparation and application form corrections.

Transportation/Location
The bus stop is far from the university, so I have to walk. This becomes a significant problem when it snows.

Facilities/Equipment
The laboratory equipment is relatively new and well-stocked. Given the small student population, it's quite satisfactory to use.

Friends/Dating
You can interact with alumni and students from other universities through off-campus clubs. Campus events are also becoming increasingly popular.

Student Life
There are many types of circles, so I was able to focus on the ones that interested me.

Evaluation ③: Male / Faculty of Bioresources and Environmental Science, Department of Food Science / Current Student / Enrolled in 2018

Overall Evaluation
Personally, I am happy to study at my own pace. Pre-tests and graduation research are a bit challenging, but once completed, I found joy in learning and working alongside others. The professors in the food science field are especially friendly, and I feel comfortable approaching them with any concerns or questions.

Lectures/Classes
You can learn about food in a variety of ways. Specialized lectures on rice cultivation and fermented food production are quite interesting. However, in humanities (a mandatory course), some professors are difficult to understand, and others are too strict (external lecturers). If you study diligently, you can earn credits. I also pursued a teaching career, so I was able to obtain a teaching license.

Laboratories/Seminars
The nature of the laboratory work differs significantly depending on the professor. Whether you're passionate about researching for a year and writing a thesis depends on the compatibility with your professor. Some equipment is old, and some areas are a bit rundown, but when I informed the professor, she either borrowed or purchased new equipment as needed.

Employment/Advancement
It's fairly standard. If you visit the employment support office, they provide job-hunting assistance. Occasionally, people like Ma*navi conduct job seminars, although many students do not attend. Besides the food industry, some students pursue careers in the beauty industry. Some also go on to graduate school. In terms of public service, it's possible to join ministries depending on your effort level.

Transportation/Location
I rented an apartment 10-15 minutes away by foot, so I walked to school. Many classmates from within the prefecture commute by car. The surrounding area is rural, which I appreciate as I enjoy the quiet. There are no major inconveniences as there are regular shopping facilities nearby.

Facilities/Equipment
I think the university has done well with building new facilities. For items in limited supply, there is an online reservation system, making it easy to book resources. Although some older items are still in use, they remain functional.

Friends/Dating
About half of the students are from outside the prefecture, and half are from within. Given the small student body, everyone tends to see familiar
