Atami Onsen is characterized by its large volume of water, soft texture, and delicate feel on the skin. The Atami Station is close to the ocean, and there are several seaside hotels within walking distance of the station, so if you value room views, be sure to choose an hotel by the sea.

2. Echigo-Yuzawa Onsen (Niigata Prefecture)

Echigo-Yuzawa Onsen is a convenient hot spring resort located just a minute's walk from Joetsu Shinkansen Echigo-Yuzawa Station. The area is known for its ski resorts, so the peak season is winter, while the rest of the time is a relatively quiet hot spring resort.
The water here is gentle and weakly alkaline, with six public baths where you can fully enjoy the hot springs. If you prefer to walk, Komakusa no Yu or Koma no Yu near the station would be more convenient.
You can also soak in a "sake bath," a mix of sake and natural hot spring water, at Ponshukan located inside Echigo-Yuzawa Station, where you can find sake from all sake breweries in Niigata Prefecture.

3. Iso-Be Onsen (Gunma Prefecture)

Located in Annaka City, Gunma Prefecture, Iso-Be Onsen is a quaint hot spring town just a 5-minute walk from Iso-Be Station. It is said to be the birthplace of the hot spring imprints, marked by a stone monument in the town.
Known for its high salt concentration, Iso-Be Onsen warms the body from within and is renowned for its skin-smoothing properties. With many famous hot spring areas in Gunma Prefecture such as Kusatsu Onsen, it's an ideal destination for hot spring enthusiasts.
Iso-Be Onsen offers a tranquil and secluded hot spring experience. While some hotels do not accommodate day-trippers, Hino-Yu, just a 6-minute walk from the station, welcomes same-day visitors.

4. Atagawa Onsen (Shizuoka Prefecture)

Atagawa Onsen is situated on the eastern side of the Izu Peninsula. Though small in size, this hot spring area boasts abundant hot water, with 13 hot spring towers regulating the source water. The steamy ambiance gives a feeling of being immersed in hot springs.
Atagawa Onsen's water quality is chloride-rich, offering moisturizing effects when soaked leisurely.

There are many hot spring hotels facing the sea, providing an excellent experience of watching the Pacific Ocean sunrise from the bath on the second morning of your stay. For day trips, consider "Atagawa Yamatokan" and "Atagawa Prince Hotel" near the station.

5. Ishiwa Onsen (Yamanashi Prefecture)

Ishiwa Onsen is a hot spring resort located in front of Ishiwa Onsen Station. This hot spring area opened in 1961 (Showa 36), making it relatively new, with a typical Yamanashi Prefecture hot spring story of gushing from vineyards.
The water quality is clear alkaline simple spring. Due to its convenient transportation from Tokyo, many visitors come for day trips.

6. Ito Onsen (Shizuoka Prefecture)

From Atami, just over 20 minutes on an ordinary line, Ito Onsen is a conveniently located hot spring destination on the Izu Peninsula.
Toi-Kan is a retro-style hot spring hotel, a landmark of the hot spring street, accepting day-trip bathing only on Saturdays, Sundays, and holidays.
It is one of the areas in Japan with the highest hot spring water usage, with about 150 hot spring hotels, many of which have hot springs directly flowing from the source. The water quality is chloride-sodium, but with a gentle salt concentration, making it mild for the skin.

7. Yugawara Onsen (Kanagawa Prefecture)

From Tokyo, it takes just over an hour on the Shinkansen or less than two hours on rapid or express trains to reach Yugawara Onsen, a conveniently located hot spring resort. The nearest station is Yugawara Station, a bit far from the hot spring town, but there are bus services, so getting there is no issue.
Yugawara Onsen has five types of hot springs, varying depending on the hotel, so it's best to choose a hotel based on the type of hot spring you prefer.
For day-trip bathing, we particularly recommend the adult day-trip water therapy center " 湯河原惣湯 Books and Retreat," opened in 2021.

8. Kofu Onsen Town (Yamanashi Prefecture)

Kofu Onsen Town is a small hot spring village located outside Kofu Station in the city center. Kikunoyu Onsen is a 13-minute walk from Kofu Station. It is a retro hot spring public bathhouse established in 1926, perfect for day trips.
As of 2024, the only hotels with access to Kofu Onsen are Hotel Danrokan and Konaya Hotel. However, the rare black hot spring, where dancing hot spring flowers are seen, is highly praised by guests.

9. Mizukami Onsen (Gunma Prefecture)

Located along the Tone River basin, Mizukami Onsen boasts a rich natural hot spring resort with a variety of hotels. Together with Kusatsu and Ikaho, it is one of Gunma Prefecture's representative hot spring areas.
Mizukami Onsen is situated at the southern foot of Tanigawadake, offering views of the mountain from the hot spring street.
Additionally, you can experience water activities like drifting and stream descent, which are popular among outdoor enthusiasts. For day-trip bathing, we recommend " Oyado Matsubaya " and " Zazan minakami ," both located within walking distance from the station.

10. Isozaki Onsen (Ibaraki Prefecture)

Isozaki Onsen is a coastal hot spring located in Isozaki-cho, Hitachinaka City, Ibaraki Prefecture, just a 12-minute walk from Isozaki Station.
Although there is only one hot spring hotel, "Isozaki Onsen Hotel New Mesozoic Era," the sodium chloride spring water in the hotel keeps the body warm. The open-air baths offer views of the Pacific Ocean, welcoming day-trip visitors as well.
Hitachi Kaihin Park and Oarai Aquarium are nearby, allowing you to sightsee and explore simultaneously.

Located within Nikko City, it is surrounded by numerous tourist attractions, making it a highly recommended hot spring destination for sightseeing enthusiasts.
For day-trip bathing, the nearest hotels to the station are Kinugawa Hotel Mikazuki and Hotel Sunshine Kinugawa. Kinugawa Hotel Mikazuki also has a spa center where guests can wear swimsuits, making it particularly suitable for families with children.

12. Hakone Yumoto Onsen (Kanagawa Prefecture)

Hakone Yumoto Onsen is a popular hot spring area near Hakone Yumoto Station, serving as the gateway to Hakone. It is easily accessible by train from Tokyo.
There are many hot spring hotels catering to day-trip visitors, among which Tenseien operates from 10 AM to 9 AM the next day.
Walking tours within Hakone Yumoto Onsen are not challenging, and the area has well-developed public transportation such as buses, mountain railways, and cable cars, making it easy to visit tourist spots without any hassle.
