Approval Rating of the Japanese Kishida Cabinet was 36% in October 2023

Cabinet Approval Rating: 36%, Disapproval Rating: 44% (NHK Opinion Poll)

NHK conducted a three-day opinion poll using a method called "RDD," targeting individuals aged 18 and above nationwide, starting on October 7th. The survey reached 2,366 people, with responses from 1,219 individuals, accounting for 52%.

The poll showed that the number of people "supporting" the Kishida Cabinet remained at 36%, as per the previous month's survey. The number of those "not supporting" increased by one percentage point to 44%.

When asked why they support the cabinet, 45% said, "It seems better than other cabinets," 27% said, "Because it's the cabinet of the party I support," and 10% said, "Because I believe in the Kishida Cabinet."

Among the reasons for not supporting the cabinet, 56% stated, "I don't have much hope for Kishida's policies," 20% said, "I doubt the ability to implement these policies," and 10% said, "I don't trust Kishida's personality."

The approval ratings for various political parties are as follows: Liberal Democratic Party 36.2%, Constitutional Democratic Party 5.3%, Japan Innovation Party 4.9%, Komeito Party 2.5%, Communist Party 2.5%, National Democratic Party 1.2%, Reiwa Shinsengumi 0.3%, Social Democratic Party 0.5%, Political Women's Party 0.1%, Participation Party 0.5%, and No Specific Party Affiliation 40.0%.

The Kishida Cabinet has been in office for two years. When asked how respondents evaluate the efforts of the cabinet during this period, 2% said they "highly appreciate," 38% said they "somewhat appreciate," 39% said they "don't appreciate much," and 15% said they "don't appreciate at all."

Appropriateness of Appointing Female Members in the Kishida Cabinet

Although Prime Minister Kishida appointed five women to the cabinet last month, the highest number in history, 11% of respondents felt that it was "appropriate" to not appoint any women as vice ministers or parliamentary secretaries. 26% of respondents felt it was "inappropriate," and 58% of respondents felt it was "very inappropriate."

Priority Policies for the Kishida Cabinet

When asked what policies the Kishida Cabinet should prioritize from a list of six options, 50% of respondents said "economic policies, including measures to address high prices." 13% said "policies to address the declining birthrate," 11% said "social security," 9% said "foreign affairs/security," 5% said "environment/energy policies," and 4% said "constitutional amendments."

How is the Kishida Cabinet's New Economic Measures?

The government plans to implement new economic measures as soon as possible, but issues include ensuring financial resources for increased defense spending and strengthening measures to address the declining birthrate.

When asked if they were concerned about the country's financial situation, 40% of people said they were "very concerned," 36% said they were "somewhat concerned," 14% said they were "not very concerned" or "not concerned at all," and 5% said they were "concerned."
