Name: Minna Island (みんなしま)
Address: Minna, Tarama Village, Miyako District, Okinawa Prefecture
Area: 2.15 km² / Perimeter: 7.2 km / Elevation: 11.8 m
Population: 4

The name Minna Islands refers to two separate islands in Okinawa Prefecture. This entry relates to Minna Island, located about 10 kilometers north of Tarama Island in the Miyako Islands group.

This beautiful island surrounded by emerald green waters and sparkling white sand, was once ruled by a man named Minna Peyunusu.

The 1935 national census recorded a population of 265, with both primary and middle schools operating. However, the typhoon disaster of 1961 prompted many residents to relocate to Miyako Island. Since then, migration has continued, leaving the island sparsely populated to this day.

Abandoned houses line the streets, narrow paths connect the houses, cattle graze, goats frolic, and large hermit crabs peep from the grass – such daily scenes unfold quietly across the island.
