Kuchinoshima is located at the northern tip of the Tokara Islands, a place where nature feels raw and untamed. Wild cows roam freely on the hills, while the faint scent of Tamotoyuri lilies fills the air. These purebred cows, known locally as Kuchinoshima cattle, live hidden inside the forests – locals estimate their number at more than 50. The island itself is wrapped in layers of Ryukyu bamboo, with subtropical trees like banyan and akou weaving together a lush, diverse ecosystem.
There is also a unique swimming spot made of natural coral rocks. Depending on the tide, visitors can slip into the cool waters and watch schools of fish glide by. It's part swimming, part aquarium, and all fun.
🏝️ Highlights:
★ North Tokara Attractions: Madeke is the highest peak at 628 meters in the center of the island. Its peaks shape the island's rugged skyline. Nearby, Mount Funayake is 425 meters high and occasionally releases steam, hinting at its volcanic roots. At its base, you'll often see wild Kuchinoshima cows grazing or wandering around.
★ Tamotoyuri Lilies: Said to grow naturally only here, these rare lilies are so unique that they have been named a Natural Monument of Kagoshima Prefecture. Their delicate flowers have become a symbol of the island's ecology.
★ Hot Spring Adventure: Off the coast of Hotojiri, you'll find a "sea hot spring" where waves crash nearby as you get wet. To the south, Seranma Onsen offers another unforgettable experience – slip into the hot waters and take in stunning views of Nakanoshima. It's a sight you won't forget.

Getting there:
